本导览的站点(10)

  1. 1
Temple of Sinawava The Narrows hike begins where the road ends. You will be walking in the river itself — water levels range from ankle to chest deep depending on season. Check flash flood forecasts at the visitor centre before entering. Download your audio before starting; there is no mobile signal inside the canyon.
  2. 2
Riverside Walk End The paved Riverside Walk delivers you to the river's edge. From here, there is no trail — only the Virgin River flowing between 300-metre walls. Neoprene socks and a walking stick are not optional; the riverbed rocks are slippery.
  3. 3
Mystery Falls Junction A waterfall cascades from a side canyon to the east. The main canyon narrows dramatically — walls close to just six metres apart while towering hundreds of metres overhead. The scale defies photography.
  4. 4
Orderville Canyon Junction A major side canyon enters from the east. Orderville Canyon is even narrower and darker — a separate adventure for another day. The main Narrows bends northward and the light changes with every curve.
  5. 5
Wall Street Section The most photographed stretch — sheer walls rise vertically on both sides, barely 6 metres apart. Sunlight filters down in thin shafts, painting the Navajo Sandstone in amber and crimson. The river echoes between the walls.
  6. 6
Deep Creek Confluence Deep Creek enters from the west, roughly doubling the river's volume. The water temperature drops noticeably. In autumn, golden cottonwood leaves float downstream through the red canyon.
  7. 7
Floating Rock A massive boulder wedged between the canyon walls appears to float overhead. Desert varnish — manganese oxide deposited over millennia — streaks the walls in black ribbons against red stone.
  8. 8
Kolob Creek Junction Another tributary enters. The canyon opens slightly here, offering gravel bars for rest stops. Look for hanging gardens — ferns and columbine growing from seep lines in the sandstone, sustained by water filtering through porous rock.
  9. 9
Big Springs The turnaround point for bottom-up day hikers. Water emerges directly from the canyon wall in a substantial spring. The rock layers here are over 150 million years old — Jurassic sand dunes compressed into stone.
  10. 10
Return to Temple of Sinawava The downstream return feels different — the light has shifted, shadows have moved, and the canyon reveals details you missed on the way in. The shuttle stop at Temple of Sinawava connects to all points in the canyon.
