本导览的站点(8)

  1. 1
Panichishte Lift Station The chair lift from Panichishte saves 700 metres of climbing to the alpine zone. The Rila Mountains are Bulgaria's highest range, reaching 2,925 metres at Musala. The Seven Lakes circuit is the most visited trail in the Rila — popular but stunning. No permit required. The trail is well-marked. Carry water and sun protection; there is no shade above the lift station.
  2. 2
The Tear (Salzata) The lowest of the seven lakes — named for its clear, teardrop shape. The water is glacial meltwater, cold and transparent. The lakes sit in a cirque carved by Pleistocene glaciers — a natural amphitheatre of granite and grass at over 2,100 metres.
  3. 3
The Eye (Okoto) The deepest of the seven lakes — 37 metres of crystal-clear water in an almost perfectly circular basin. The name reflects its appearance from above: a deep blue eye gazing at the sky. The lake has no visible outlet; water percolates through the moraine.
  4. 4
The Kidney (Babreka) Named for its distinctive shape, the Kidney is the lake with the steepest surrounding banks. The granite moraine walls are carpeted with alpine wildflowers in July — gentian, primula, and Rila's endemic species. Leave No Trace principles protect this fragile alpine ecosystem.
  5. 5
The Twin (Bliznaka) The largest lake by surface area, sometimes appearing as two connected lakes when water levels drop. The White Brotherhood holds annual dawn ceremonies on its shores — thousands gather each August to practice paneurhythmy, a form of sacred dance, beside the water.
  6. 6
The Trefoil (Trilistnika) Three-lobed and shallow, the Trefoil sits on a broad shelf of glacial sediment. The surrounding meadows are a carpet of Rila's famous alpine flowers. The granite peaks of the cirque rise in a semicircle above — harsh grey rock softened by distance and light.
  7. 7
The Fish Lake (Ribnoto) The shallowest and most densely vegetated lake — aquatic plants give it a greenish tinge. Despite the name, the lakes contain no fish; the water is too cold and the ecosystem too fragile. The Rila Mountains are a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
  8. 8
The Upper Lake (Gornoto) The highest of the seven at 2,535 metres — a small tarn tucked beneath the ridge. Snowfields persist beside it into late summer. From here, the entire chain of seven lakes is visible below, descending like a staircase of turquoise and green. The Rila Monastery — Bulgaria's spiritual heart — lies in the valley far below.
