이 투어의 정차 지점 (10)
- 1 Te Anau Downs Wharf The Milford Track begins with a boat journey across the head of Lake Te Anau. A Great Walk pass must be booked months in advance through the Department of Conservation — walk-in access is not possible. The track is one-way only, northward to Milford Sound. Pack for rain; Fiordland receives up to seven metres of rainfall annually. Download your audio before boarding — there is no mobile signal for the next four days.
- 2 Glade Wharf The boat deposits you at Glade Wharf, at the head of Lake Te Anau. The track enters the Clinton Valley — a glacially carved U-shape lined with towering southern beech forest. The Department of Conservation maintains the track to a high standard, but expect mud.
- 3 Glade House Site The site of the historic Glade House, once a luxury accommodation for early tourists. The Clinton River flows clear and green beside the track. The beech forest — red, silver, and mountain beech — is draped in mosses and ferns, creating a green cathedral.
- 4 Wetland Boardwalk Boardwalks cross a wetland area rich in native plants. Flax, cabbage trees, and native grasses line the track. The birdlife is remarkable — tui, bellbird, fantail, and if you are very lucky, the rare whio (blue duck) on the river. New Zealand's forests evolved in isolation for 80 million years.
- 5 Clinton River Walk The track follows the Clinton River through ancient forest. The river is crystal clear — you can count individual stones on the riverbed from the bank. The forest floor is carpeted in mosses and ferns — over 200 species of fern grow in Fiordland.
- 6 Beech Forest Cathedral The silver beech trees here are centuries old — their trunks massive, their canopy forming a continuous roof over the track. The forest is so dense that very little undergrowth survives; the effect is of walking through a natural cathedral with green light filtering from above.
- 7 Clinton River Swing Bridge A swing bridge crosses the Clinton River. The water below is remarkable — every shade of green and blue, reflecting the beech forest and the sky. Practice Leave No Trace — the Milford Track is a taonga (treasure) of New Zealand, and every tramper has a responsibility to keep it pristine.
- 8 Clinton Hut Approach The track levels out as Clinton Hut comes into view — a modern DOC hut with bunks, gas cookers, and running water. The hut warden provides weather updates and track conditions. Sandflies — Fiordland's only flaw — are persistent; bring repellent.
- 9 Clinton Hut Clinton Hut sits beside the river in a clearing of beech forest. The Clinton Valley stretches ahead — tomorrow's trail climbs to Mintaro Hut beneath the Mackinnon Pass. The evening light in Fiordland is long and golden. Kea — the world's only alpine parrot — may visit the hut clearing, curious and mischievous.
- 10 Clinton River Evening View A short walk from the hut leads to a river viewpoint. The Clinton Valley narrows ahead, with the peaks of the Darran Mountains visible above the forest. The silence is deep — no roads, no engines, no artificial light. This is New Zealand's wilderness as it has been for millennia.
