Stationen dieser Tour (8)
- 1 Jasper Townsite (Start) Start heading south. Jasper is a Dark Sky Preserve — one of the largest in the world. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye here.
- 2 Athabasca Falls The Athabasca River drops 75 feet through a narrow gorge. The force of the water has carved potholes in the quartzite rock over thousands of years.
- 3 Sunwapta Falls "Sunwapta" means "turbulent river" in Stoney Nakoda. The falls split around a small island. Grizzly bears are frequently seen in this valley.
- 4 Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre The Columbia Icefield covers 325 sq km and feeds three oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic). The ice is up to 365 meters deep. You're looking at 10,000 years of snowfall.
- 5 Athabasca Glacier Toe Walk to the toe of the glacier. It has retreated 1.5 km in the last 125 years. The meltwater you see will reach the Arctic Ocean in about 6 months.
- 6 Peyto Lake Viewpoint Turquoise water colored by glacial rock flour (finely ground rock suspended in meltwater). Shaped like a wolf's head from this viewpoint. Named for Bill Peyto, a legendary park warden and trapper.
- 7 Bow Lake Source of the Bow River, which flows through Calgary. Num-Ti-Jah Lodge on the shore was built by pioneer outfitter Jimmy Simpson in 1937.
- 8 Lake Louise Village End point. The lake itself is a 15-minute drive from here. Named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta — Queen Victoria's daughter. The turquoise color comes from glacial silt.
