Clouds Rest is Yosemite's best-kept open secret — fewer crowds than Half Dome, no permit required, and a superior view. The round trip is 23 kilometres with 550 metres of elevation gain. Start early. Carry bear spray and at least two litres of water. Cell signal is unreliable beyond the trailhead.
